Why Packing Matters

Jewellery and bullion aren’t like regular parcels. They’re small, heavy, sharp-edged and worth a lot. A loose gold bar in a cardboard box will dent itself. A necklace thrown in with a ring will tangle and scratch. A pouch tossed in with a jewellery stand can bend prongs and snap clasps.
This guide is the exact method BVC recommends to every jewellery business we work with — simple, repeatable and safe. Follow it, and your piece travels in a sealed, cushioned, category-specific box that is ready for the journey ahead.

Before You Begin — Assemble Your Materials
Keep these items ready at your packing station. The size of the pallets, plastic box and outer container should always match the size and weight of the bullion or jewellery you’re shipping.
For bullion. Size of the pallet must match the size and weight of the bar or coin.
Used in multiple layers — around each piece and inside every outer box or container.
Cotton bedding used only for jewellery. Protects against scratches, dents and metal-on-metal contact.
The inner box for jewellery pieces. Size depends on the weight and size of what's going inside.
Tin for bullion, necklaces & chains. Aluminium for rings & earrings. Always the outer shell.

Use the correct final container
Two Categories
Bullion and jewellery are packed differently. Follow the right method for what you’re shipping — and never mix the two inside the same box.
Get your plastic pallets, bubble wrap, and a tin or aluminium container ready. The size of the pallets depends on the size and weight of the bullion you're shipping.
Place every bullion piece carefully inside its own plastic pallet. One piece per pallet — no stacking, no sharing.
Cover the inside of the tin or aluminium container with bubble wrap. This is the first shock-absorbing layer.
Gently place the plastic pallets inside the tin or aluminium container — one after another — so they sit snug and don't shift.
Add another layer of bubble wrap over the pallets and close the lid. That's it — your bullion is packed and ready.
Always match the pallet size to the bullion. A loose pallet is as bad as no pallet — the piece will slide and dent.
Quick rule: Bullion goes only with bullion. Never mix bullion with jewellery in the same box — the edges of a bar can damage delicate jewellery in seconds.
Get a plastic box, bubble wrap, thick soft cotton, a tin box (for necklaces and chains) or an aluminium container (for rings and earrings). The size of the box must match the size and weight of the jewellery.
Cover the inside of the plastic box with bubble wrap. Add a thick layer of soft cotton bedding on top of the bubble wrap — this is the bed your jewels will rest on.
Cover every jewellery piece with a thick cotton layer, then wrap it in bubble wrap for added protection. Each piece gets its own cotton + bubble wrap shell.
Carefully place the wrapped jewellery inside the lined plastic box. Don't force anything — if it won't fit, use a bigger box.
Add another layer of thick cotton followed by bubble wrap on top of the jewellery before closing the lid of the plastic box.
Take the tin box (for necklaces and chains) or aluminium container (for rings and earrings) and add the same two layers — cotton and bubble wrap — to envelop the plastic box. Close the outer container.
Remember: Tin box for necklaces & chains. Aluminium container for rings & earrings. The outer shell is not interchangeable — it’s chosen based on the shape and weight of the jewellery inside.

No liquids, flammables, electronics, stands
Nothing non-jewellery is inside the box. Only the piece and its packing.
Box sealed and ready for handover
BVC partner can now verify against the barcode and declaration letter.
Why This Method Works
Every step in this guide exists for a reason. Here’s what each layer actually does — and why skipping any one of them puts the piece at risk.
A soft cotton wrap stops metal-on-metal contact. Gold, platinum and silver all scratch each other easily — cotton prevents it.
Roads in India aren't always smooth. Bubble wrap absorbs the vibration and the drops, so the energy doesn't reach the piece.
The inner plastic box keeps everything in place. It stops pieces from sliding around even if the outer container tilts.
The outer metal container is your final shield. Tough, rigid, and strong enough to survive handling through the journey.
One category per box means no tangling, no scratching, and a much cleaner manifest for verification at every BVC checkpoint.
Matching the box size to the piece means no empty space. No empty space means no movement. No movement means no damage.
