What Is a Reverse Shipment?
In jewellery, reverse shipments are a normal part of the business. An online customer wants to exchange a ring size. A wholesale buyer returns unsold stock. A repair comes in for polishing, re-tipping or stone replacement. A hallmarking centre sends pieces back to the manufacturer.
Every one of these movements is a reverse shipment. And every one of them has a higher risk profile than a forward delivery — because the packaging is often opened, the piece is sometimes loose, and the chain of custody has to be rebuilt from scratch.
This guide walks you through exactly how BVC manages that journey — from the moment you book the pickup to the moment Proof of Delivery is updated on your dashboard.
“When a customer wants to send a piece of jewellery back to the seller — for any reason — that shipment is called a reverse shipment.”
Who This Guide Is For
If a piece ever leaves your showroom, factory or warehouse — and might need to come back — this guide is for you. Here's who BVC runs reverse logistics for every day.
Branch-to-Head Office stock returns, store-to-store exchanges, repair pickups from customers — all handled with the same security as your first delivery.
Online order returns, try-at-home returns and size exchanges — picked up from the customer's doorstep, tracked end-to-end, no questions asked.
Repairs, re-work, unsold stock and RMA loops from retailers. BVC keeps the chain of custody intact all the way back to the factory floor.
Approval-memo returns, hallmarking pickups, component returns to suppliers — every reverse leg with a live audit trail.
The Full Journey of a Return Shipment
Here is the same journey — mapped out as a timeline. Every checkpoint is a moment where a piece is re-verified, re-sealed or re-signed. Security isn't one step. It's every step.
Checkpoint 1 · Origin
Your team (or your customer via your app) books a pickup on the BVC system. A barcode and declaration letter are generated and sent to the pickup partner.
Checkpoint 2 · Doorstep
Our partner arrives, matches the piece against the barcode and declaration, seals it in a numbered tamper-evident bag, collects a signature, and hands an acknowledgement copy to the consignee.
Checkpoint 5 · Line Haul
Bound shipments leave under armed escort in GPS-enabled vehicles — or via secure air cargo, with BVC taking custody at both ends.
Checkpoint 6 · Destination Airport
BVC collects the shipment from the destination airport and brings it to the nearest local hub — again in an armoured vehicle.
Checkpoint 7 · Destination Hub
Security personnel at the destination hub recheck the shipments and match them against the manifest. Only then is the parcel dispatched for final delivery.
Checkpoint 8 · Final Mile
Handover only after ID check and signature/stamp on the receipt. POD captured and uploaded. Status updates to “Delivered” on your dashboard.
Security in Detail
BVC doesn't rely on one security step. We stack eight of them. If any one layer fails, the next one catches it. Together, they form a complete chain of custody — from your customer's doorstep back to you.
Piece cannot leave origin unless it physically matches the document. No exceptions.
Unique numbered bag sealed at the doorstep. Any attempt to open it leaves a visible mark.
Consignee signs the declaration letter and gets an acknowledgement copy. Proof of pickup is established on the spot.
Purpose-built vehicles, live-tracked by our 24×7 control room. No blind spots on the route.
Shipments are stored and reverified inside a strong room — not on the floor of a general warehouse.
The destination hub knows exactly what is coming, when, and under which manifest. Any mismatch is flagged immediately.
For high-value consignments, armed security travels with the vehicle from origin hub to destination hub.
Only authorised personnel can receive. ID verified. Signature/stamp captured. Digital POD updated on your dashboard.
Smooth Returns
Forward deliveries build your brand. Reverse shipments test it. When a piece comes back, the margin for error is high — packaging is open, expectations are high, and every step must be provable. Without a structured process, even one failed return can create cost, confusion, and customer friction.
With BVC, that process is already in place. Designed specifically for jewellery, it rebuilds the chain of custody from the moment of pickup and protects it through every stage. The result is simple: each return, repair, and reverse shipment arrives back exactly as intended — secure, verified, and fully accounted for.
