Why Jewellery E-Commerce Logistics Is Different

Standard Couriers Are Built For Parcels. Jewellery Needs More Than That.

Selling jewellery online is one of the most exciting opportunities for Indian jewellery brands today — whether you are selling through your own website, on Instagram, on Amazon, or to international buyers overseas. But the moment a customer places an order, the responsibility of getting that piece to them safely falls entirely on your logistics provider. And most logistics providers are simply not built for jewellery.

Think about what a standard courier does with a jewellery parcel. It goes into the same system as a book, a phone case, or a pair of shoes. It passes through multiple sorting hubs. Multiple people handle it. There is no specialist insurance covering the actual value of the piece inside. If it is lost or damaged, the courier's liability is a fraction of what the piece is worth. The jewellery brand takes the loss — and loses the customer too.

For jewellery e-commerce brands, the logistics provider is part of the product experience. Your customer ordered something precious and personal. How it arrives — on time, safely packed, properly handled — tells them everything about whether your brand takes care of them after the sale. A damaged or delayed order does not just cost you a return — it costs you the customer's trust and every future order that would have followed.

"When a customer orders jewellery online, the sale is only half the job. Getting it to their door safely and on time — that is the other half. That is what builds the relationship."

BVC's high-value e-commerce logistics service is built specifically for jewellery e-commerce — both domestic and international. For Indian deliveries, we cover 12,000+ pincodes across 600+ cities, with 24-hour delivery available to 2,000+ pincodes, fully insured shipments, and a secure reverse pickup process for returns. For international orders, we ship to 60+ countries worldwide, partnering with FedEx, DHL, UPS, and CSB-V for global reach, with delivery within 7 days and pricing that is up to 50% more cost-efficient than traditional high-value shipping.

For brands that ship occasionally or are just getting started, we also offer a prepaid wallet option — load credits in advance, pay only when you ship, and enjoy the same insured, secure service with no monthly commitments or minimum volumes required.

Approach Comparison

What Usually Goes Wrong — And How BVC Does It Differently

Jewellery e-commerce has specific logistics risks that standard courier services are not designed to handle. Here is where problems typically happen — and what BVC does instead.

Insurance Coverage For The Actual Value Of The Piece

Common Problem

A jewellery brand ships a ₹50,000 ring through a standard courier. The courier's standard liability is capped at ₹5,000. The parcel is lost in transit. The brand files a claim and receives ₹5,000 — 10% of the ring's value. They absorb the loss, refund the customer, and the courier takes no further responsibility.

BVC Way

Every ecom order is insured for 100% of the declared shipment value. There is no cap. If a ₹2 lakh piece is lost or damaged in transit, the brand's insurance claim is for ₹2 lakhs — not a token liability amount. Full value, every shipment, every time.

Handling Returns Safely And Without Fraud

Common Problem

A customer returns a piece via a standard courier. The package arrives back at the jeweller's store. When they open it, the piece inside is not the one that was shipped — or it is the right piece but something is missing from it. Courier return fraud is a real and growing problem for jewellery e-commerce brands, and standard couriers have no tamper-controlled reverse pickup process.

BVC Way

BVC's reverse pickup process for jewellery returns is tamper-controlled and verified. When BVC collects a return from the customer, the piece is verified and sealed at the point of collection. The brand receives back exactly what was picked up — not a substitute, not a partial return. Fraud is eliminated from the return process.

Reaching Customers In Smaller Cities And Towns

Common Problem

A jewellery brand based in Delhi gets an order from a customer in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. Their regular courier does not cover that pincode — or covers it with a delivery time of 5–7 days and no insured option. The brand either has to decline the order, offer a lesser service, or take the risk of shipping uninsured. They lose the sale or take on unnecessary risk.

BVC Way

BVC covers 12,000+ pincodes across India — metros and Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities alike. Every covered pincode gets the same insured, tracked, secure service. A brand based in Mumbai can confidently accept orders from customers anywhere in India, knowing BVC will deliver to their door safely.

Shipping Internationally Without Paying For It In Margins

Common Problem

An Indian jewellery brand starts getting international orders from their website. They try to ship using a premium international courier at standard rates. The shipping cost for a single piece to the USA or UK is so high it either makes the order unviable or forces the brand to absorb the cost. International expansion becomes too expensive to sustain at small order volumes.

BVC Way

BVC's break bulk consolidation model combines multiple small e-commerce shipments into a single consolidated movement — which means the cost per shipment is dramatically lower. International shipping via BVC eSHIP Global is up to 50% more cost-efficient than traditional high-value courier rates, making international D2C genuinely viable for Indian jewellery brands.

Managing Orders Across Multiple Platforms

Common Problem

A brand sells on their own website, on Amazon, and through Instagram. Each channel has different logistics requirements and different providers. The brand is juggling three logistics relationships, three tracking systems, and three different sets of insurance arrangements. As order volumes grow, the complexity becomes unmanageable — and mistakes start to happen.

BVC Way

BVC's eSHIP platform handles all your jewellery e-commerce shipments — across all channels — through a single app-based system. You book, manage, and track every order in real time through the BVC Universe platform. One login, one provider, one point of contact. The complexity disappears and you focus on selling.

How It Works

From Your Store To Your Customer's Door — Step By Step

Each stage of jewellery e-commerce logistics has its own requirements. Click each step to understand what happens and why it matters for your brand and your customers.

No separate bookings for separate channels. Every order goes through one system, one provider, and one insurance framework. You always know exactly what is in transit, what has been delivered, and what is pending.

For brands that ship occasionally or are just getting started, we also offer a prepaid wallet option — load credits in advance, pay only when you ship, and enjoy the same insured, secure service with no monthly commitments or minimum volumes required.

India Angle And Regulatory Context

The Paperwork That Must Travel With Every Shipment

Jewellery sold through e-commerce, D2C, and marketplaces is delivered across locations throughout India. That makes clear movement and proper records very important.

GST Invoice — Carried On Every Movement

A self-attested copy of the GST e-Invoice must accompany every consignment of gold and silver jewellery, irrespective of the type of movement. Checkpoint officers rely on this document to verify the sender's tax identity before any other paperwork is examined, making it critical that the invoice carries complete details, including shipper declaration, content declaration, declared value, along with signature and stamp. BVC attaches this to every consignment file by default.

Branch Transfer (Intra-State) — Delivery Challan

For branch-to-branch movement of jewellery within the same state, a Delivery Challan under Rule 55 of the CGST Rules 2017 is the correct document — not a tax invoice, because no supply has taken place. The challan must carry the reason (“branch transfer”), the value, and the identifiers of both branches.

Branch Transfer (Inter-State) — For Stock Transfer Memo (Delivery Challan)

When jewellery is moved between branches across state lines, GST treats it as a taxable supply. A GST Invoice for Stock Transfer under Rule 46 of the CGST Rules 2017 is mandatory, and IGST applies even though no external sale has occurred. BVC structures these inter-state branch transfers with the invoice, the e-way bill, and the matching insurance declaration as one packet.

Delivery Challan

A Delivery Challan under Rule 55 of the CGST Rules 2017 travels with every high value shipment, without exception. It records what is physically leaving the premises, its value, and where it is going — irrespective of whether a sale is happening, whether it is an internal transfer, or whether the piece is going for repair. Customer generates this challan at the point of dispatch for every single shipment.

No Sale Declaration Of Goods — For Marketing Trips And Exhibitions

A No Sale Declaration of Goods accompanies every jewellery shipment to formally state that the movement itself is not a sale transaction. This protects the jeweller from the consignment being mistaken for an undeclared taxable supply at a checkpoint, and it clarifies the intent of the movement for any officer inspecting the goods in transit. BVC attaches this declaration by default to every consignment file.

E-Way Bill — Triggered By Value & Distance Thresholds

On top of the baseline paperwork, an E-Way Bill is required for inter-state jewellery movement above the prescribed threshold, and for intra-state movement in states that have notified e-way bill requirements for precious metals under CGST Rule 138F. BVC tracks which states have notified this requirement and generates the e-way bill wherever applicable.

HSN Code — Mandatory On Every Invoice & Delivery Challan

The correct HSN code must appear on every GST invoice and every delivery challan that moves with a jewellery consignment. Gold jewellery, silver jewellery, coins, bars and studded pieces each have their own HSN classification, and the code dictates the applicable GST rate and the audit treatment of the consignment. A missing or incorrect HSN is one of the most common reasons a jewellery shipment is held up at a checkpoint or flagged in a post-audit review.

Insurance Declaration Policy

Insurance coverage up to ₹5 lakhs is provided by BVC. For any shipment exceeding this threshold, submission of a declaration by the shipper is mandatory, irrespective of whether BVC insurance is selected.

Authorization Letter

An authorization letter must be included with the shipment to confirm approval for intercity movement. It enables checkpoint authorities to verify that the transfer is duly authorised.
